International Students

Welcome to the International Programs Office!

We welcome you to the University of Charleston’s International Programs Office which aims to promote the exchange of educational and cultural ideas both at the University of Charleston and in the greater Charleston community and to support the process of internationalizing the campus.

Special Programs

English as a Second Language (ESL)

To support the international students, an array of English as a Second Language (ESL) courses ranging from English Conversation to Academic Reading and Writing are offered.  These classes are designed to give students practice in speaking, writing essays, and developing their vocabulary for academic purposes.  Professional tutors and volunteers from the community are available to assist in this process.

Study Abroad Programs

As students engage in cross-cultural experiences, they enter a new dimension of the learning experience.  Hands-on learning through short-term, summer, and long-term programs abroad are encouraged as part of the curriculum.  Study abroad programs include traditional global study programs, world-wide service learning projects, and international internships.  The University of Charleston is working toward expanding programs in each of these areas.
