Going Greek @ UC
Greek Life

The Greek community at the University of Charleston consists of a group of diversified men and women belonging to 5 different fraternities and sororities. Our Greek community provides its members with opportunities for growth and excellence in academic, leadership, service learning, and social arenas. The university Greek Council serves as the governing council for the entire Greek community. Each Greek organization is represented within Greek Council.

Greek Council coordinates the different Greek events at the university including Rush, Greek Week, the Toga Party, and several others. Members of the Greek Council organization are very involved with the Charleston community, through community service, special events, commemorations, and fundraisers. The leadership and initiative we find in the Greek Council organization, is inspiring to not only the UC faculty and staff, but also the rest of the student body.

What Does Being Greek Really Mean?

Membership in a Greek organization is a lifetime commitment.  By becoming member of the Greek community means working with a group of men and women who exchange ideas and stand for common goals, while being holding each person to a higher standard.  Each of the 5 chapters at UC develops a special bond called brotherhood/sisterhood. This bond is nurtured through a commitment to community service, academic excellence, family interactions, common work, laughter, intramurals, and the shared successes and failures of it all.  Throughout your life your membership will be an unwritten bond of friendship no matter what course your life takes.

Greek Rush

Greek Rush is a period of time in which students who wish to find out more about Greek Life can do so. Once these students sign up for rush they are referred to as "rushees". These few weeks known as Rush are an introduction to Greek Life during which rushees have a chance to meet various members from each of the Greek Organizations at the University of Charleston, hang out, ask questions and also decide whether or not sisterhood or brotherhood appeals to them.

Students who have accumulated 12 credit hours and have a minimum G.P.A of 2.0 are permitted to RUSH.

The active chapters are:
Tau Kappa Epsilon (Fraternity)
Delta Phi Delta (Sorority)
Kappa Tau Epsilon (Sorority)
Theta Kappa Pi (Sorority)
