We are very excited that you will be joining the UC community this fall and are looking forward to meeting you at Freshmen Orientation. This year’s theme is “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” and we have created a program that will help you learn more about UC, make new friends, interact with faculty, and earn academic credit!

ORIENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL NEW STUDENTS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON.

Saturday, August 23

  • 10 am – 6 pm Move-In Main Lounge
  • 8 pm Freshmen Fiesta Brotherton
  • UC Bookstore will be open from 8 am to 6 pm.

Sunday, August 24 –Enlightened Living

  • 11:00 am Non Denominational Service Rotunda
  • 11:00 am Brunch (optional) Dining Hall
  • 12:30 pm Check-In Riggleman
    All new students will need to check-in and pick up their Orientation packets.
  • 1 pm Welcome/ Opening Session Auditorium
    (After Opening Session parents will leave and go to the Ballroom for Parent Orientation.)
  • 1:30 pm Who’s in Your Section~ PE Round-UP Auditorium
    Meet your Peer Educator and your UNIV 101 classmates.
  • 1:30 pm Transfer Student Round-UP Auditorium
    Meet other transfer students and learn about UC.
  • 2:30 pm Ultimate Road Trip with Monster.com Auditorium
    This program is designed to help you answer some of the initial questions about college in a new and exciting way. It will help you get organized, get involved and get excited. Here are some of the topics discussed:
    • Managing your time so you can have fun AND build your future
    • Earning the grades even your parents couldn’t dream of
    • Choosing extracurricular activities in which you can make a difference
    • Making any job a stepping stone towards a bright and successful career
  • 3:00 pm Campus Life 101 Classrooms
    Learn about all of the wonderful opportunities
  • 4 pm President’s Reception Rotunda
  • 5 pm – 7 pm LATE MOVE-IN
  • 8 pm Mentalist Chris Cater Ballroom

Campus Offices and UC Bookstore will be open from 11 am to 1 pm. 

Monday, August 25-Community Involvement

  • 9 am – 6 pm Student Services Fair ~ Ballroom
    Students with the last name A-L need to check in and pick up important paperwork.
  • 9 am-9:30 am Peer Educators set the Stage! ~ Classrooms
  • 9:30 am -10 am Guest Speaker ~ Auditorium
  • 10:00 am -12:30 pm UNIVERSITY 101 ~ Classrooms
  • 12:30 pm -1:15 pm Lunch with PE & Mentor ~ Classrooms
  • 1:15 pm – 1:45 pm Cruising Campus with your PE ~ Classrooms
    Learn how to navigate through Campus Cruiser, the University communications system used by faculty, staff, and students.
  • 1:45 pm Class Photo ~ Riggleman
  • 8:00 pm UC Bingo ~ C.T.

Tuesday, August 26-Productive Work

  • 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Student Services Fair ~ Ballroom
    Students with the last name M-Z need to check in and pick up important paperwork.
  • 9:30 am - 10:00 am Productive Work ~ 101 Classrooms
  • 10 am – 12:30 pm ~ UNIVERSITY 101 Classrooms
    Attend your first class of the semester and gain community service hours.
  • 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ADN Meeting ~ Appalachian Room
    This session is ONLY for ADN students. If you have any questions, please contact the Health Sciences Department at 357-4855.
  • 12:00 pm Luau on the Lawn ~ Riverbank
  • 1:30 pm Pre-pharmacy students meeting ~ CTB 101

Wednesday, August 27 – Freshmen Convocation
12:00 pm Convocation ~ Auditorium
A presentation of the Class of 2012 to the UC community. Business attire.
A reception will be held in the Rotunda.
