University of Charleston Hires Kathy Mason as Director of UC-Martinsburg

Charleston, W.Va.  – University of Charleston Regional President Jerry Forster today announced the hiring of Kathy Mason to serve as the Director of UC-Martinsburg. She will begin her duties immediately.

“We are very happy to have Kathy Mason on board as we build our presence in Martinsburg,” said Dr. Forster. “She brings to UC-Martinsburg a vast knowledge of the region’s business climate, which will be invaluable in helping us recruit quality students to our on-site and online academic programs.”

Mason has been very active in the Martinsburg business landscape for over 25 years, working for companies such as Flohr Pools, F&M Bank and as branch manager of Manpower. She most recently served as the business programs manager for the Berkeley County Development Authority, where she was responsible for maintenance and execution of the Existing Industry Retention and Expansion Program, as well as the BCDA’s contact for all entities and programs associated with local businesses, community development, workforce development and employee/labor force issues.

“I am very excited to be a part of building the University of Charleston’s presence in the Panhandle,” said Mason. “UC-Martinsburg offers many distinct programs, which especially benefit working adults interested in earning their degrees.”

Mason is a past chairman of the Martinsburg/Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce and of the Eastern Panhandle Transportation Authority, as well as a board member of the Eastern Panhandle Planning & Development Council (Region 9), Region 7 Workforce Investment Board, Martinsburg Noon Rotary Club and of Main Street Martinsburg. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership, Management and Development. She is also a graduate of Leadership Berkeley and holds certifications in Professional Community and Economic Development and Senior Professional in Human Resources.

The 2012-13 academic year marked UC’s 125th anniversary as an academic institution. UC was founded in 1888 as Barboursville Seminary, renamed Morris Harvey College in 1901, moved to Charleston in 1935 and was renamed the University of Charleston in 1978.
