Programs Rely on Technology to Serve Students

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – Frontier Communications has presented $100,000 to the University of Charleston to support Independent College Enterprise (ICE) Inc. programs that provide online access and information to West Virginia high school students.

ICE supports administrative computing for eight member institutions, which include UC, Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, Bethany College in Bethany and West Virginia Wesleyan University in Buckhannon.

“While broadband provides the platform for instruction in the 21st century, we also see independent and public institutions of higher education using technology to communicate efficiently and effectively with students and prospective students,” said Dana Waldo, senior vice president and general manager for Frontier in West Virginia.

“We recognize that West Virginia’s independent colleges and universities share our vision for giving more high school students an opportunity to learn, and this grant will help them achieve their goals.”

Dr. Ed Welch, president of the University of Charleston, confirmed that “the support of Frontier is allowing us to assure the reliability of the technology that drives the work of eight colleges and universities.”

“We look forward now to expanding the services that we provide to high school students across West Virginia,” he said.

Frontier presented the grant under the terms of its agreement with the West Virginia Public Service Commission to acquire Verizon markets in 2010.
