Rho Chi Inductees

Release Date:  Monday, May 14, 2012

Thirty University of Charleston student pharmacists and seven UC pharmacy graduates inducted into the inaugural chapter of Rho Chi, the academic honor society in pharmacy, on Thursday, April 26. The Delta Lambda chapter is the 107th active chapter of the organization.  Inductees must be in the top 20% of their class and have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Rho Chi encourages, recognizes and rewards outstanding scholarly achievement.  It advocates critical inquiry in all aspects of pharmacy.  The society encourages high standards of conduct and character and fosters fellowship among its members.  It seeks universal recognition of its members as lifelong intellectual leaders in pharmacy, and as a community of scholars, to instill the desire to pursue intellectual excellence and critical inquiry to advance the profession.

Drs. Renee McCafferty and Gagan Kaushal are the co-advisors for the Delta Lambda chapter and were instrumental in establishing the local chapter.  Dr. Shauna Buring, Rho Chi Region IV Councilor, facilitated the installation of the chapter and induction ceremony.

Dr. Michelle Easton, Dean, said, “I am delighted and excited that the executive council of Rho Chi approved the establishment of a local chapter of Rho Chi at the University of Charleston last month.  We champion excellence in academics and foster professionalism of our student pharmacists both inside and outside of the classroom.  It is rewarding to have a nationally recognized organization accept as members our student pharmacists who embody the tenets of this time-honored organization.”

The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy, established in 2006, educates over 300 students in a new, technology-filled building, and is known for its friendly atmosphere and the close cooperation between students and faculty.  The program is fully accredited, and its mission is to train pharmacists to provide comprehensive patient care, to advance the profession through research and advocacy, and to serve the community as leaders in rural health care.
