UC Pep Band
The University of Charleston (UC) Pep Band was formed in 2006 to support the newly revived football program by adding to the atmosphere of home football games. Since then, the UC Pep Band has evolved into not only an integral part of all home football games, but also to the men's and women's basketball games. As the Pep Band's size and instrumentation continues to grow, it is our goal to form a marching band to perform at halftime during home football games and to participate in community events. The Pep Band rehearses twice a week as a one credit hour course.
Steel Drum Band
The UC Steel Drum Band began as an experiment with a few Pep Band members who were willing to put in some extra time and energy. Using borrowed drums and rehearsing off campus, these fine musicians learned how to play the instruments and created an ensemble that made their performance debut at a limited number of University functions. After receiving a generous donation, steel drums were purchased and are now housed on campus for regular use by the members of the UC Steel Drum Band. They perform routinely at many University functions, as well as for recruiting and visitation days held on campus. The UC Steel Drum Band is also available to perform at various public and private events around the Kanawha Valley.
