Welcome to the Graduate School of Business!

“Preparing and Enabling Great Leaders”
Entrepreneurial Leadership, International Commerce & Communications

Welcome from the Dean
The Graduate School of Business at the University of Charleston began classes August 27, 2008.  Our students are fully engaged in an exciting Master of Business & Leadership (MBAL).  The Problem Based Learning program mirrors the real world of business.

Faculty members Dr. Phil Pyburn and Dr. Kim Shin are engaged with students who will become the next generation of leaders in West Virginia and the region.  Their path is one that will lead to a career of excellence in the world of business as they journey through a masters program like no other in the country.

Our students are enjoying a newly built business center that has at its heart an economic engine fueled by West Virginia business men and women who are committed to growing wealth in the Mountain State.  This economic engine is comprised of intellect, investment capital, a commitment to make a difference and a steady stream of entrepreneurial activity.

Our school is on the second floor of a building Triana Energy has renovated for its rapidly growing Charleston headquarters.  University of Charleston President Ed Welch and Triana CEO Henry Harmon are the visionaries who created the concept of the graduate business program.

Our students are now engaged in up-close and personal relationships with executives from throughout the business community.  The MBAL journey is fast-tracked with students paired with executive mentors and significant experiential learning within businesses in southern West Virginia.  These pairings position our graduates through executive networking and development of professional poise.

This coming summer our semester abroad begins with students exploring international commerce in overseas educational and business settings.  Currently we are exploring relationships with universities and businesses in Russia, Italy, China and Spain.

Our students are now experiencing a great opportunity to learn, work and plan for a future filled with exciting new ventures.  We are working hard and we are having a great deal of fun at the same time!

Students, faculty and staff consider themselves among the chosen few to enter a new world with our Inaugural Class.   Our thanks to the committed business men and women who are nurturing our students as they journey along the path to exemplary leadership.
