Instructor & Athletic Trainer

The Department of Athletic Training at the University of Charleston is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor/Instructor and Athletic Trainer in the accredited Athletic Training Program. This is a ten-month position with 75% academics and 25% athletics in the fall semester; 100% academics in the spring semester. The Department of Athletic Training is a highly collaborative and cooperative department demonstrating excellence in the medical care of athletes and the educational preparation of future athletic trainers. The department is housed in the School of Health Sciences.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

  • Teach undergraduate courses within the Department of Athletic Training and School of Health Sciences
  • Advise, mentor, and recruit students in the Department of Athletic Training
  • Demonstration of commitment to teaching excellence and service
  • Remain current in best practices and current issues/trends within the profession
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within the department, school, and university
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in the classroom and clinical setting
  • Advise students in progression to graduation
  • Participate in student research, independent studies, and case studies
  • Provide quality athletic training services in the area of prevention, evaluation, assessment, and rehabilitation
  • Remain current in best practices within the profession
  • Demonstrate strong professional communication skills and behaviors
  • Assist program director with maintaining accreditation and other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • BOC certification
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as an athletic trainer and classroom/teaching experience preferred
  • Master’s degree required, earned doctorate preferred, however, applicants in progress or with a strong desire to obtain a terminal degree will be considered for hire
  • Knowledge of CAATE accreditation standards is desired
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, internet use, & multimedia
