High School/University Dual Enrollment

After completing the sophomore year of high school, students are eligible to apply for special admission to the University to enroll in freshman-level course work, provided the student stays concurrently enrolled in high school. Students applying for dual admission must submit:

  • Completed “Non-degree Student Application”
  • $25 application fee
  • Official copy of high school transcript showing evidence of a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Documentation showing minimum composite ACT score of 19 and/or SAT I score of 900 on the re-centered SAT.*
    • The writing sample sections of the ACT and SAT will not be used to determine admissions status, but may be used to determine placement
    • PLAN or PSAT equivalents will be accepted
  • Written recommendation from student’s high school principal

Consult your high school guidance counselor to select a course or courses that do not overlap your high school program.

Students may take a maximum of two courses per semester. The Office of Admissions must approve participation each semester. Course work done at the University by a high school student may count toward the high school diploma if approved by the student’s high school. The course work will be credited toward a University of Charleston degree for those who subsequently enroll as regular students, and may be evaluated for credit toward a degree at other accredited postsecondary institutions. Enrollment is contingent on class size and availability.
