General Policies
Users are reminded to:
- Save your work on your personal network P Drive, or on a floppy disk or jumpdrive.
- Always log out of their UCNET accounts when finished
- Ask for earphones for multimedia assignments so that sound will not distract those who may be studying.
- Leave the workstations as you would like to find them; do not leave trash, pencils, or personal items behind or unattended.
- Check the A Drives for diskettes before leaving.
As with any public-access terminal, users are asked not to:
- Download software programs (including chat)
- Change PC configurations
- Engage in recreational activities (games) due to equipment limitations and the research needs of all UC students
- Save any documents on the PC's desktop or hard drive (they will disappear)
Circulation Lobby
The Circ Desk laser printer (LibraryMain) handles print jobs from all workstations in the Reference Room. As such, users are requested to print only what is necessary for academic work and to avoid printing PowerPoint presentations unless in Outline or Handout View. (Please see the librarian if you're unsure how to do this; we'll be glad to show you).
Reference Room
The Reference Room is equipped with Dell workstations (with Microsoft Office applications, Windows XP OS). A scanning station is available for those who need to scan photos. The Reference Room is recommended for those who need a noise-free study area and/or research assistance.
The Library Instruction classroom is intended for scheduled classes with faculty, database training sessions, or other supervised sessions but may be used at other times by students when the reference room computers are all occupied.
Wireless Accessibility
Internet access is available with wireless connectivity throughout the library. Students may use personal laptops (if equipped with a wireless network card) and wireless laptops will be available for loan to current UC students within the library for up to 2 hours. A valid UC photo I.D. is required to check out a laptop. No exceptions.
Third Floor
The third floor (Periodicals floor) is equipped with a number of older workstations (Microsoft Office applications, Windows 2000 OS). Due to irregular maintenance, it is recommended they be used primarily for Internet browsing since some A Drives are faulty and the USB ports are difficult to access.
