Student Organizations

A significant portion of the total learning experience of each student is acquired outside the classroom. The ability to communicate well with others, to develop, promote, implement, and evaluate ideas and activities, and to initiate change when desirable are obvious necessities for every educated person. UC graduates are expected to be able to function effectively as team members and be involved, contributing citizens in the community in which they live or work. The types of experiences needed to develop these skills are made available to our students primarily through co-curricular programs and student leadership, with active involvement in recognized clubs and organizations as a key element.

The University of Charleston has a diverse population of student organizations.  Of the 35+ student organizations, we hope to have something for everyone!  If you have questions about any of these organizations listed below or are interested in starting a new student organization, please contact the Office of Student Life at (304) 357-4745.

All students MUST maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average in order to participate in any UC student organization, hold an officer’s position, or to participate in intramurals.

Greek Organizations

The structure of Greek Life at the University of Charleston contributes to the unique experience of student development through the virtues of sisterhood, academics, community service, and the ideals of each Greek organization.

The following Greek organizations are currently on the UC campus:

Every fall and spring semester, the Greek Council coordinates “RUSH” a campus-wide recruitment event. RUSH is the mutual selection process for joining a fraternity or sorority. This recruitment process allows students to visit and meet the brothers and sisters of each chapter, learn about their activities and traditions, and familiarize themselves with the membership options.
