Curricular practical training (CPT)

Curricular practical training is defined as employment which is an integral part of your curriculum.  It can include any type of required internship or practicum which is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school.

To be considered CPT, the work must not only be related to the students’ major field of study but must also be an integral or required part of their studies.  Training which their degree program requires always meets the requirements for curricular training regardless of whether or not they receive academic credit for the work.  Training which is not required by their degree program may meet the requirements to be CPT if they receive academic credit for the employment experience.  If they have a training opportunity, which involves paid employment, they should check with the Director of International Programs to determine if it qualifies for CPT.
