9/23/2014 - University of Charleston named "Military Friendly School" for sixth year
Charleston, W.Va.  - For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Charleston has been named to the Military Friendly Schools list, as chosen by Victory Media. The list honors the top colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

9/11/2014 - University of Charleston has Record Enrollment
Charleston, W.Va.  – University of Charleston President Ed Welch today announced that full-time student enrollment is the highest in the school’s history.  There are 1,895 full-time students enrolled, an increase of 36 percent in just two years.

8/13/2014 - Mountain State University (MSU) and Former MSU Students Propose Settlement
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – To resolve numerous lawsuits against Mountain State University (MSU) by former MSU students (plaintiffs) without further protracted litigation, MSU and the plaintiffs have agreed to a proposed settlement of these lawsuits and related matters. The settlement is based on a pool of funds created from MSU’s assets, insurance and other sources.

5/2/2014 - The University of Charleston will hold its 126th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 4th
Charleston, W.Va.  - The University of Charleston will hold its 126th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 4th, at the University campus. While not all students will participate in the commencement ceremonies, this year’s graduating class includes 280 students from all UC locations (Charleston, Beckley, Martinsburg and online), and will include candidates for 160 bachelor’s degrees, 44 master’s degrees and 76 doctorate recipients.

Charleston, W.Va. – The University of Charleston’s largest December Commencement on record will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, in Riggleman Hall’s Geary Auditorium, as 106 graduates are slated to walk across the stage.

7/24/2013 - University of Charleston Receives Major Gift for Sports & Fitness Center
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston today announced a gift of approximately $1.25 million from H.B. (Bernie) Wehrle, III and his wife Cecilia toward the school’s Sports & Fitness Center campaign. Combined with a gift of $250,000 from the H.B. Wehrle Foundation and Wehrle family members, the total contribution was over $1.5 million.

Charleston, W.Va. – The United Methodist Church presented University of Charleston President Ed Welch with the Francis Asbury Award on Saturday, June 8, at its West Virginia Annual Conference on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Charleston, W.VA.  – The University of Charleston has appointed Dr. Scott Bellamy as Dean of the School of Business.  He succeeds Dr. Charles Stebbins, who retired in May.

3/29/2012 - University of Charleston Announces New Graduate Program for National Guard
Charleston, W.Va. – The University of Charleston (UC) has announced the most recent addition to its graduate business offerings.  Beginning in August, 2012, UC will offer an executive master of business administration program (EMBA) exclusively for members of the West Virginia National Guard.  

11/30/2011 - Dr. Robert Rufus Selected as Judge for the Second Annual AICPA Case Competition
Charleston, W.Va.  – University of Charleston Executive Master of Forensic Accounting (EMFA) program director Dr. Robert J. Rufus has been chosen by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to help select the winner of the 2011 Accounting Competition.

4/29/2011 - Nearly a quarter of UC graduates finish in 3 years
This weekend, the University of Charleston holds its spring commencement ceremony. Graduates will don caps and gowns, process down the aisle and receive their diplomas. This year, nearly a quarter of the students in the graduating class have finished their college education in less than four years.
