Tree Planting Ceremony
A Tree Planting Ceremony was held on April 28, 2008 at the Triana Field parking lot on 19th Street. J.P. Morgan Chase granted $10,000 to plant 50 arborvitae trees and expand the student recycling program. The arborvitae will provide a visual barrier for the adjoining neighborhood and a barrier for wind and dust from passing vehicles. Each tree removes 26 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually, which equals the emissions from 11,000 car miles.

The grant will also help to expand the recycling program initiated on campus this year by the Chi Beta Phi science honorary. Grant proceeds will fund a student supervisor, marketing materials, and additional recycling bins. Valley Gardens Nursery will be on site planting the trees.

UC staff and faculty, community members, and neighbors joined UC President Ed Welch and Mark Prince from J.P. Morgan Chase at the ceremony.
