The Technology Specialist provides technical, operational, and strategic support to the University. This position must work closely with and provide extensive support to the Director, as well as other departmental staff. The numerous and varied responsibilities of the Technology Specialist require an individual excited by change and excellent at multitasking, interpersonal skills, adapting to changing priorities, and learning new skills.
This position may be involved in any and all aspects of departmental operations. Primary responsibilities include: develop, implement, and maintain operational standards and strategic visions for University Computing (encompassing support of faculty, staff, public, and student computers); manage technology-related projects; ensure that software licensing compliance is maintained across campus; support end-user and departmental training of various sorts; assist in creation and maintenance of departmental and institutional policies, procedures, and other documentation; provide support for the University’s administrative computing platform; and assist the Director with other tasks as necessary.
The Technology Specialist is expected to remain on the cutting edge of industry trends and technological advances, while also maintaining competency in current technology. This position must bridge the gap between visionary business concerns and operational technology needs – comfortable enough in both arenas to successfully implement projects and direct changes that drive the University forward without toppling the support that makes it work.
Effective communication with all levels of faculty, staff, administration, and external contacts is of extreme importance. The Technology Specialist serves on various institutional committees, provides regular updates on projects to appropriate constituencies, and works closely with other department members.

Participation in the department’s on-call support policy is mandatory.
