UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR NEXT WEEK

Release Date:  Sunday, January 12, 2014

Charleston, W.Va.  - University of Charleston President Ed Welch today announced the school will close on Monday, January 13 due to the ongoing State of Emergency  and water contamination in the Charleston area.

All activities on campus, including today's new student orientation, are cancelled until further notice. It is projected the University will open approximately 30 hours after the State of Emergency is lifted by Governor Earl Ray Tomlin. This time will allow residential students time to return to Charleston, as well as allow campus personnel to inspect all equipment and make sure it has returned to operational status.

Approximately 60 Charleston students who needed to return to school early are being housed in UC-Beckley's University Hall (residence hall). The students will be housed there until water service returns. UC-Beckley and UC-Martinsburg remain fully operational and will begin classes as scheduled on Monday. UC-Online started classes last week.
