GREENSBURG, Pa. – Seton Hill (13-6, 9-5) used an outstanding effort from its bench to snap the University of Charleston’s (13-6, 10-4) five-game winning streak with a 69-63 victory over the Golden Eagles in women’s basketball action, Thursday night in Greensburg, Pa. The Griffins outscored UC 29-9 off the bench.

SHU came out of the gates quickly to mount an early 16-7 lead just five minutes into the action, before UC clamped down on defense and go on a 7-2 run in order to cut the deficit to just four points with just over 12 minutes left in the first frame. The Griffins continued to control the action as they pulled their lead to as much as 10 points, yet the Golden Eagles never faltered and responded with an 11-2 run in order to tie the game at 33 a piece with 1:09 left on the clock.

Seton Hill proved they were not content with taking a tie into the locker room at half as Jordan Burkes drained a 3-pointer with 47 ticks left in the half. Pressure defense forced a Golden Eagle turnover with 27 seconds remaining that led to a quick basket and a foul for SHU with just 3 seconds on the clock. After hitting the free-throw Seton Hill took a 39-33 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The Griffins came out of the half just as they started the first with a quick basket from behind the arc for a nine-point advantage. Over the next ten minutes of action SHU slowly pulled away from UC to hold a 14 point lead with just five minutes remaining in the contest. The Golden Eagles proved there is a reason they are ranked No. 7 in the region as they took control of the next four minutes of action for an 11-1 run to cut the SHU lead to four point (63-59) with 1:31 on the clock. The clock proved to be UC’s worse enemy as they were forced to foul in order to slow down the game and Seton Hill converted their opportunities at the free-throw line hitting 7-of-8 down the stretch to preserve the six point victory.

Kaitlyn Arick (Louisville, OH/East Canton HS) led the way for the University of Charleston with 18 points, while Tarenna Dixon (Morgantown, WV/University HS) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Golden Eagles return to action on February 6 as they travel to Fairmont State for a crucial conference match-up against the Falcons.
