FAIRMONT, W.Va. - Fairmont State earned two crucial WVIAC conference wins over the Golden Eagles men's and women's basketball teams, Thursday night in Fairmont.
In women's action, the FSU (18-8, 15-6) starters accounted for 84 of the squad's 86 points as they held off UC (18-8, 15-6) with whom they were contending for the fourth seed in the upcoming WVIAC tournament. For the Falcons Lauren Streicher connected on 7 of 10 three-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points. The Golden Eagles had four players score in double-digits led by Tarenna Dixon's 18 points and 8 rebounds. Lindsey Kentner recorded 16 points for the Golden Eagles.
The men's game saw the Falcons (21-5. 16-5) come out of the locker room on fire from the opening tipoff as they hit 18-of-25 shots, which included 8-of-10 from behind the arc as they pulled out to a 51-33 halftime advantage. The Golden Eagle (17-9, 15-6) defense managed to cool off FSU in the second half cutting the deficit to as little as five points with seven minutes remaining in the game, but it was Fairmont's night on their homecourt as they cruised down the stretch to a 86-71 win.
