SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The former Union Carbide headquarters in South Charleston is coming down.
University of Charleston spokesman Andy Spradling says a contractor plans to implode the 11-story brick building on March 28.
The Dow Chemical Co. donated the structure, known as Building 82, to the university in 2005. Dow acquired Union Carbide in 2001.
University officials plan to sell the 7-acre site.
The university initially planned to convert the building into living quarters for pharmacy students. That plan was dropped when university officials determined it would cost up to $10 million.
