In 2010, 160 preceptors from thirteen states are working with UC students to give them the hands-on experience needed to deliver excellent patient care.  If you would like to learn more about sharing your skills and knowledge with UC students in a structured preceptor relationship, please contact David Bowyer, Director of Experiential Education at 304-357-4892 or

The experiential program complements the student’s didactic education program by providing practical experiences in “real-life” settings. These experiences allow the student to understand how to apply the principles of pharmaceutical care in a variety of settings and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to become independent pharmacy practitioners. The specific outcomes and objectives of each portion of the program are based on the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards and the University of Charleston competencies.

The experiential program is a longitudinal program with sections in all four years of pharmacy school. These sections are divided into three parts:

    • Introduction to Healthcare Practices (Intro. Practice Experiences I)
    • Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (Intro. Practice Experiences II-IV)
    • Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (PHARM 800 series courses)
    APhA Certification
