Jennifer Pack Named Director of Physician Assistant Program

Release Date:  Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Charleston, W.Va.  - Jennifer Pack has been named the new director of the University of Charleston’s Physician Assistant (PA) Program. She recently began her new duties after serving as assistant director of the PA program since 2011.

“Jennifer has been with the PA program from the beginning,” said UC Provost and Dean of Faculty Letha Zook. “She understands the unique nature of the curricular design and has demonstrated her leadership ability. The program will continue to grow and mature under her guidance.”

Pack joined the University in 2011 as assistant director to help build the PA program from scratch. She developed the syllabi, policies, assessments and admission procedures so that the program could get accredited. The accrediting body required two assessments and a syllabus for all 39 courses offered in the program. Thanks to Pack and her team, the department received their provisional accreditation in April of 2012.

Pack received her bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies from the College of West Virginia in 1997. After practicing primary care for six years, Pack worked in emergency medicine and then hospital medicine. She received her master’s in physician assistant studies from Alderson-Broaddus College in 2004, before taking a faculty position at Mountain State University.

Outside of UC, Pack serves as president for the West Virginia Association of Physician Assistants (WVAPA), stepping up from vice president last year. She has served as a speaker at the WVAPA’s annual continuing medical education conference in 2009, 2011 and 2013. In her spare time, Pack is involved with her church and family. She also enjoys horseback riding and CrossFit.

PA is one of the fastest-growing medical occupations in the United States. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), PA jobs are expected to increase 30% from 2010 to 2018. Full-time PAs make an average of $86,410 per year. For more information about the UC PA program, visit
