As part of the Department of Education, the Wellness/Physical Education certification provides graduates the skills to teach both Physical Education and Health, ages Prekindergarten through Adult. They can also add an option to their program:
With the addition of Special Education, the students receive Physical Education certification, Health Education certification, Multi-categorical Special Education, and a limited Biological Sciences certification. The limited Biological Sciences certification serves as the subject area for their Multi-categorical Special Education certification.
The program was undertaken with the intent of preparing fitness experts to assist the nation in modifying the rapid development of health problems. Physical educators who are highly motivated, who exhibit a deep understanding of proper exercise and nutritional habits, and who understand the methods of teaching will be truly valuable in assisting the nation in reducing health costs and increasing productivity of its individuals.
