University of Charleston’s annual International Education Week celebration will take place November 17 – 21, 2014. The event is hosted every year in celebration of cultural diversity on UC’s campus.
International Education Week recognizes the cultural diversity on the University’s campus, where students represent 41 countries.
Events will be hosted Monday through Friday from 11am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm. (There will be no evening hours on Friday). Events will be held in the Frankenberger Gallery on the second floor of Geary Student Union.
A Ten Thousand Villages sale will offer fair trade artisanal crafts, jewelry, clothing, household items and more. Ten percent of the sale’s proceeds will go to UC’s Global Student Organization. More information about the Ten Thousand Villages program can be found at: http://www.tenthousandvillages.com.
In addition to the sale, students from Mali, Norway, Colombia, Syria, India and more will be offering five-minute language lessons and students from Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam will be writing guests’ names on cardstock in their native alphabet. Other special activities include henna tattoos and origami making.
The University Dining Hall will be preparing internationally-themed cuisine during the week as well, using student-submitted authentic, traditional recipes including Honduran tamales, Brazilian black bean stew, Chicken Tikka Masala, Korean-style marinated beef and more.
All events during International Education Week are open to the public.
