Physician Assistant Program Accreditation

The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation – Provisional to the University of Charleston Physician Assistant Program.

Accreditation – Provisional is an accreditation status. The status indicates that the plans and resource allocation for the proposed program appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards, if fully implemented as planned. Accreditation – Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.

The purpose of accreditation is to establish and maintain standards of quality. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is the agency authorized to accredit PA Educational Programs.

Only graduates of programs accredited by the ARC-PA or its predecessors are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). Certification is required to be eligible for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant.

To learn more about PA Program accreditation, visit the official ARC-PA website. To learn more about the PANCE, visit the official National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) website.
